Arrived and Alive

Yes, I am here in San Salvador, El Salvador, and I am pleased to report that I have not been mugged or assaulted or had a gun pointed in my direction. Nor have I been a victim of any rare, uncurable diseases or come across any life-threatening animals or insects...except for a scorpion, but that's another story.

This past month has been full of meeting new people, learning Spanish, getting to know the area, creating lesson plans and attending staff meetings at the school, and a couple stays at the beach. Five of us girls from the U.S. are living together in a house provided by the school. Four of us just got here, and three of us knew each other before coming, so it has been a lot of fun. All in all, the living situation is better than I had expected.

Much to my delight, mountains and volcanoes surround the city. Assuming the volcanoes keep to themselves, this place could pass as paradise (except for the volcanic ash beaches). Everything is very green, and even though we are in rainy season, the sun is out every day and it's not too hot. The area we live in has security and is only 2 blocks from the school. Classes start this coming Monday and I will be teaching high school English. Anyone have ideas to keep students awake, other than free coffee?

Please pray that God will give me wisdom in teaching, and that He will reveal the love of Jesus to the students here. I look forward to writing more later!
